Park Maintenance Manager Sr.

Salary Range: $72,907.90 - $107,539.12

About the role

Works under the general direction of the Park Operations Administrator to oversee the overall strategy and direction of arboriculture, horticulture, irrigation, and maintenance and operations in Memphis Parks. Develops maintenance strategies for Memphis Parks greenspaces and Wolf River Greenway in coordination with Park Maintenance Managers. Provides work direction, assignment of duties, evaluation of work performance, and discipline of assigned staff.

Establishes and maintains a cooperative working relationship with employees, property owners, union representatives, other department staff, management, vendors, and contractors as necessary. Identifies and implements internal professional development as well as parks maintenance related certification programs.

Monitors and prepares budget including goals and performance indications. Updates maintenance and operations standards and preventative maintenance plan in collaboration with Park Operations Administrator on an annual basis. Researches and evaluates new developments in heavy equipment to recommend or deny purchases. Oversees all park operations programs and contracts necessary to acquire equipment and supplies. Prepares bid specifications and contracts necessary to procure and maintain equipment, tools, materials, and supplies.

Evaluates and analyzes reports utilizing park operations software and various Microsoft applications to make decisions regarding park operations. Manages park operations fleet to include receiving, identifying, and the storage of city property. Assesses staff and programs to measure their effectiveness. Travels throughout the city to inspect worksites.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
• Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a computer, telephone, copier, and calculator.
• Requires the ability to lift and carry objects such as mechanical tools weighing up to 50lbs and maneuver including stooping, bending, reaching above head including traversing uneven ground to make inspections on park grounds and surrounding areas.
• Requires the ability to operate an automobile.

Working Conditions

• Majority of the work is performed in an office environment.
• Outdoor activities will be conducted in a variety of off-site settings and will be required during seasonal activities or special events.
• Requires travel to attend various meetings throughout the city.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, Earth Sciences, or a related field and eight (8) years of professional experience in grounds operations with six (6) of the eight (8) years in a supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class “A” Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver License and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules as a condition of continued employment.
• Must obtain Chemical Certification Category Three within six (6) months of employment.
• Working experience in dealing with various federal and state programs relative to Parks and Recreation preferred.
