Location: 1001 Encinitas Blvd, Encinitas, CA 92024
Part-time (6–10 hours/week), non-exempt, hourly position reporting to the Music Director.
About the Role
Our parish Pianist will assist in leading the faithful in full and active participation in the sacred music of the liturgy. In addition to the regular schedule of 2 Sunday Masses, availability is required for special Masses throughout the year (such as feast days, solemnities, funerals, and weddings) and weekly choir rehearsals (~1x per week). This position requires working weekends and evenings.
Responsibilities
- Participate in worship-space planning requirements
- Attend a minimum of one choir practice per week
- Demonstrate strong sight-reading skills
- Maintain and upkeep the sound system and media display
- Act as sound technician/sound engineer as needed
- Serve as a resource to staff in selecting music and planning liturgies and prayer services
- Invite, encourage, and enhance assembly participation in the sung liturgy; assure ongoing expansion of the parish music repertoire
- Demonstrate awareness of liturgical elements and the order of the Holy Mass
- Display enthusiasm for sacred music and serving in liturgical ministry
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings
- Good communication skills and a friendly demeanor
- High degree of proficiency with piano, capable of providing musical leadership during liturgies
- Excellence in sight-reading, thorough knowledge of organ/piano, and comfort with both homophonic and polyphonic music
- Active member of a Catholic faith community
- Thorough knowledge and familiarity with the organizational structure and practices of the Roman Catholic Church
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in liturgical music
- Performance skills for organ and piano
Physical Demands
- Regularly perform in the sanctuary/choir area of the main church building; appropriate manners and dress are required
- Must be mobile to, from, and within the office, as well as throughout the facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events
- May be required to travel to various city and county-wide locations for meetings or events
- Must be able to climb stairs
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
Pay
$35/hr. – $40/hr.
