About the role

This position works with families of Medicaid-eligible children to help maintain the family’s ability to care for the child in the home and community. The Parent Peer Support Specialist (PPSS) provides targeted support services, child-centered care, and assists in keeping the family together while preventing out-of-home placement. The PPSS works with parents/guardians and children in their home and community, focusing on family strengths, the child’s developmental age, and cultural heritage.

Responsibilities

  • Support the parent/guardian and child/family as a member of the family team to assist in strengths assessment and treatment plan development.
  • Increase collaboration with families and professionals.
  • Conduct non-diagnostic interviews to assess service needs and identify family needs.
  • Help families meet their needs through family and community resources.
  • Tailor goals for each family to reflect their particular needs and help them realize their full potential.
  • Maintain close communication with managers and treatment team members to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Advocate for the family in agency settings and with other organizations.
  • Educate families about agency interactions, benefits, and programs.
  • Provide consultation and expert advice to management regarding family plans and advocacy.
  • Complete specialized training to meet requirements for billable services, case management, and adjunctive services.
  • Establish working relationships with clinical, administrative, and support staff to maximize available services.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding consumer information.
  • Work efficiently under pressure, meet deadlines, and balance job requirements with personal well-being.
  • Organize and plan fieldwork schedules, including home-based meetings, agency meetings, and care coordinator meetings.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience raising a child with emotional problems.
  • Current Kansas Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
  • Proof of automobile insurance and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to climb stairs and access non-handicap-equipped residences/facilities.

Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Pay

From $22.00 per hour.
