About the Role

This position supports outreach and recruitment efforts for program participation in collaboration with direct staff. It assists in planning, coordinating, and implementing multi-component education and prevention programs, including parental engagement and related support services for parents and children, in alignment with AVANCE's mission and policies. The role is responsible for teaching parents and caretakers enrolled in the AVANCE Parent-Child Education Program how to create educational toys using the AVANCE Toy-making Manual, following AVANCE’s Parenting Curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Honor and promote the unique identity of every staff member, child, and family, ensuring a non-discriminatory environment.
  • Model the organization’s Core Values and maintain a strong understanding of AVANCE’s operational standards, policies, procedures, and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with Parent Representatives and Facilitators to plan, deliver, and facilitate educational and prevention workshops, as well as support groups for children, youth, and adults.
  • Support program coordination by working closely with the Coordinator of Parental Engagement, Parent Facilitators, and on-site volunteers.
  • Build relationships with partner agencies, local governments, school districts, and community stakeholders.
  • Assess the needs of parents and children within school districts and conduct focus groups to develop high-quality services.
  • Prepare materials for Parent Rooms on designated ISD campuses.
  • Organize, manage, and participate in parent and volunteer recruitment efforts.
  • Ensure participant files and data are maintained in compliance with State and Federal guidelines, including proper handling of registrations, sign-in sheets, and attendance records.
  • Provide participants with information, referrals, and consultations as needed.
  • Foster effective communication with AVANCE staff and collaborators to support cross-program services.
  • Participate in staff selection, training, and evaluation.
  • Prepare and submit reports in a timely manner.
  • Conduct home visits as needed and attend trainings, school meetings, and staff meetings.
  • Assist with budget documentation and solicit community support and volunteer engagement.
  • Assess the needs of parents and children to inform program recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with monthly record-keeping for statistical reporting.
  • Implement effective systems for data collection, reporting, and analysis.
  • Build positive relationships with stakeholders and deliver culturally sensitive customer service.
  • Actively promote AVANCE's mission.
  • Prepare for toy-making lessons by creating handouts, purchasing supplies, and managing inventory records.
  • Sew, cut, and prepare toy materials, and maintain an exhibit sample of AVANCE toys.
  • Conduct toy-making sessions that reinforce AVANCE Possibility Sheets.
  • Maintain sign-in sheets for all sessions.
  • Work evenings and weekends regularly as needed.

Requirements

Education:

  • Required: Associate degree in Education, Social Work, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Business Administration, or related field.

Work Experience:

  • Required: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a classroom teaching children and working with adult groups.
  • Preferred: Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with families and children in a school or group setting and knowledge of the Performance Standards and Texas Licensing Standards.

Skills

  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software applications with advanced skills using Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Spanish fluency required.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, board members, external partners, and donors.
  • Emotional maturity.
  • Highly resourceful team player, with the ability to be extremely effective independently and manage numerous simultaneous projects.
  • Forward-looking thinker who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions.
  • Strong analytical, presentation, verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to travel to various training sessions.
  • Must have dependable transportation on a daily basis, a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, current auto liability insurance, and be bondable by AVANCE, San Antonio, Inc.

Travel: 0-10% annually on average.

Working Conditions

  • General office and sedentary work environment.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Use of personal computing equipment.

  • Walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying, pulling/pushing of 10-30 pounds.
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Occasional exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.).
  • Occasional exposure to weather-related conditions when working in outside environments, neighborhoods, and events.
