Paraprofessional - Instructional

About the role

The Instructional Paraprofessional works under the supervision of a Building Administrator and with direction from one or more teachers. Their main job tasks include providing student assistance, assisting in reinforcing learning, guiding independent study, and serving as a source of information and assistance to substitute teachers.

Responsibilities

• Provide student assistance
• Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests
• Work with individual students or groups of students to reinforce learning
• Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work
• Assist with emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, field trips, and instructional activities
• Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in oral communication
• Help students with daily living and self-help skills
• Aid in the collection and distribution of instructional materials
• Assist with testing and make-up work
• Support the teacher in record keeping and documentation of student performance
• Engage in ongoing professional development
• Respond promptly and thoroughly to requests for information
• Maintain a clean, neat appearance and appropriate record of attendance and punctuality
• Model appropriate behavior for students, colleagues, and the public
• Collaborate with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers
• Comply with District and School policies and regulations

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Knowledge of basic curriculum expectations, teaching strategies, and computer applications
• Basic reading and computation skills, and appropriate oral and written expression
• Thorough knowledge of English grammar and usage
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods, sit for prolonged periods, operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment, perform repetitive motions, and perceive sounds and discern colors visually
