About the role

The ELA-S Paraprofessional supports teachers by providing curriculum-based English language acquisition educational support to students in designated subject areas.

Responsibilities

  • Provides classroom assistance in the area of language acquisition as students develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in designated subject areas.
  • Prepares and sets up educational materials.
  • Provides computer-based reading and writing instruction for students who scored below established level on standardized tests or assessments.
  • Assists in assessment of students’ reading and writing abilities.
  • Coordinates instructional efforts with teachers and educational staff and assists and supports the development of lesson plans.
  • Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, computer-based instruction, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
  • Assists individuals and small student groups and reinforces learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Provides student performance assessment assistance for assigned subject matter, giving feedback to the student and the teacher.
  • Communicates (verbally and in writing) with students and parents about routine issues in their native language.
  • Supervises and monitors students at assigned sites and reinforces positive student behaviors and student-related administration policies and rules.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is required.
  • Must complete a proficiency exam hosted by Berlitz (speaking and reading sections; passing score required for hire).
  • Must live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado.
  • Must have the ability, with or without accommodations, to meet the physical demands of the position.

Pay

New hires start at $22.824 per hour. Internal candidates may earn up to $27.275 per hour. The listed rate reflects the 2025–2026 school year; 2026–2027 salaries will be finalized mid-summer. For full compensation details, view the Para Salary Schedule.
