About the role

Supports teachers by providing curriculum-based English language acquisition educational support to students in designated subject areas. What DPS Offers You:

Responsibilities

Provides classroom assistance in the area of language acquisition as students develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in designated subject areas.

  • Prepares and sets up educational materials.
  • Provides computer-based reading and writing instruction for students who scored below established levels on standardized tests or assessments.
  • Assists in assessing students' reading and writing abilities.
  • Collaborates with teachers and educational staff to coordinate instructional efforts and support lesson planning.
  • Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using various teaching methods.
  • Assists individuals and small student groups, reinforcing learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Communicates (verbally and in writing) with students and parents about routine issues in their native language.
  • Supervises and monitors students at assigned sites, reinforcing positive behaviors and adhering to administrative policies and rules.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Pass a proficiency exam hosted by Berlitz, which includes a speaking and reading component.
  • Believe in and support all students, ensuring they feel seen and heard with access to high-quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with Denver Public Schools.
  • Have the ability to meet the physical demands of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications
