About the role

Supports teachers by providing curriculum-based English language acquisition educational support to students in designated subject areas. The position offers a competitive salary range starting at $22.824 per hour for new hires and $22.824 to $27.275 per hour for internal candidates. Responsibilities

  • Provides classroom assistance in the area of language acquisition as students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in designated subject areas.
  • Prepares and sets up educational materials.
  • Provides computer-based reading and writing instruction for students who scored below established levels on standardized tests or assessments.
  • Aids in assessing students' reading and writing abilities.
  • Collaborates with teachers and educational staff to coordinate instructional efforts and develop lesson plans.
  • Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, computer-based instruction, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
  • Assists individuals and small student groups and reinforces learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Communicates (verbally and in writing) with students and parents about routine issues in their native language.
  • Supervises and monitors students at assigned sites and reinforces positive student behaviors and adheres to student related administration policies and rules.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is required.
  • Must complete a proficiency exam hosted by Berlitz, which includes passing both speaking and reading components.
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in the community.
  • Believe in and support all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high-quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with Denver Public Schools.
  • Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.
