PARAPROFESSIONAL, ENGLISH LANGUAGE ACQUISITION (ELA) - 9TH-12TH GRADE - BILINGUAL SPANISH REQUIRED
About the role
Supports teachers by providing curriculum-based English language acquisition educational support to students in designated subject areas.
Responsibilities
- Provides classroom assistance in the area of language acquisition as students develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in designated subject areas.
- Prepares and sets up educational materials.
- Provides computer-based reading and writing instruction for students who scored below established levels on standardized tests or assessments.
- Assists in assessing students' reading and writing abilities.
- Collaborates with teachers and educational staff to coordinate instructional efforts and assist in developing lesson plans.
- Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, computer-based instruction, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
- Aids individuals and small student groups, reinforcing learning concepts presented by teachers.
- Assists in student performance assessment, providing feedback to both the student and the teacher.
- Communicates (verbally and in writing) with students and parents about routine issues in their native language.
- Supervises and monitors students at assigned sites, reinforcing positive student behaviors and adhering to student related administration policies and rules.
Requirements
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is required.
- Must complete a proficiency exam hosted by Berlitz, which includes passing the speaking and reading portions.
- Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community.
- Believe in and support all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
- Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with DPS.
- Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.

Pay
New hires will be set at $22.824 per hour. The salary range for internal candidates is $22.824 to $27.275 per hour. For detailed compensation information, view the Para Salary Schedule. The salary listed reflects the 2025–2026 school year. Salaries for the 2026–2027 school year are typically finalized and released mid-summer, with an effective date of August 1. If any updates or adjustments are made once the new salary schedule is finalized, all impacted individuals will receive the updated salary.
