Paraprofessional - Early Education, Per Diem

About the Role

Assists teacher and classroom staff in providing developmentally appropriate education programs that support the optimal growth and development of students. Supports the hospital's mission to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory guidelines, meeting agency standards, and obtaining appropriate certification.

Responsibilities

• Support teacher and teacher’s assistants (TAs) in fostering a challenging learning environment for 1:1 students and the classroom.
• Assist in implementing lesson plans and classroom routines for individual students and/or the classroom environment.
• Prepare developmentally appropriate educational materials as needed.
• Support students’ development of self-help skills (feeding, toileting, and dressing) under the guidance of classroom staff.
• Help maintain records to meet compliance requirements of oversight agencies.
• Care for and present the classroom environment, including sanitizing toys and equipment, maintaining bulletin boards, rotating toys and books, and arranging the classroom.
• Ensure a safe environment by following infection control and universal precautions.
• Maintain professional boundaries with colleagues, staff, and families while respecting family choices and decisions.
• Facilitate the safe arrival and departure of children by assisting with busing and transport duties.
• Develop rapport with students when assigned 1:1 assistance and provide feedback to classroom staff about student responses.
• Participate in meetings, committees, and shared departmental duties such as preparing the school environment, ordering supplies, and assisting with events like parties, field trips, and graduation.
• Demonstrate flexibility when assignments change based on school attendance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• BLS certification required.
• Experience working with children of various abilities and age groups required.
• 2 years of early education classroom experience preferred.
