About the role

To assist the classroom teacher or case manager in maintaining and delivering appropriate classroom activities in an environment that allows students to learn effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in creating a safe and appropriate learning environment.
  • Implement and record data according to the students' IEPs.
  • Track and record student behavioral data.
  • Teach everyday social skills to the children in the assigned classroom.
  • Support students with inclusion activities.
  • Help students with organizational tasks.
  • Care for the medical needs of the students as necessary.
  • Establish purposeful relationships with the students.
  • Help students become more independent.
  • Work to maintain the personal care of the students in the assigned classroom.
  • Assist students with daily living tasks.
  • Assist students with various types of communication activities.
  • Help students complete their classroom assignments.
  • Serve as a student advocate.
  • Identify students needing social work assistance and/or consultation.
  • Manage student behavior under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Participate in crisis intervention activities.
  • Prepare students for transition from the high school setting.
  • Accompany students to/from class.
  • Supervise students during the instructional day.
  • Prepare documentation for IEP goals and progress reports.
  • Engage with students on a one-on-one basis.
  • Set up and put away classroom equipment and materials.
  • Maintain communication with students' parents.
  • Ensure classroom safety.
  • Complete paperwork for Medicaid reimbursement.
  • Coordinate and schedule test and quiz accommodations.
  • Coordinate re-evaluation dates and annual review dates.
  • Follow the directives of the classroom teacher or case manager.
  • Perform supervision duties before and after school.
  • Engage in professional development activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students and student information.
  • Comply with all applicable laws and OTHS policies.

Qualifications

  • Meet ISBE requirements for paraprofessionals.
  • Be highly dependable with regular work attendance and punctuality.
  • Work well with students, staff, and parents.
  • Possess personal fitness sufficient for participation in required tasks.
  • Previous medical experience/knowledge is preferred.

Pay

$18.25 per hour, starting pay as determined by the Agreement between the Board of Education OTHS District No. 203 and OFT Local 3939 Paraprofessional Council.

Schedule

This position is a 9-months, 7.5 hr/day position.
