Duties & Responsibilities
- Aid students in achieving the teacher’s educational objectives.
- Support instruction through individualized instruction, tutoring, guided practice, translation (if applicable), or other techniques, as directed by the teacher.
- Maintain a safe and secure classroom environment, including communication of behavior and conduct expectations, administration of discipline, and support for behavior management systems.
- Attend parent/teacher conferences to support communication between teachers and parents.
- Occasionally provide non-teaching support tasks such as assembling materials, making copies, monitoring recess, supervising lunch, etc.
- In the absence of the teacher, provide classroom instruction according to the teacher's plans or additional directions.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required.
- Ensure confidentiality of student records and information.
- Complete necessary documentation for regulatory compliance.
- Participate in team activities such as grade-level planning, school-wide planning, or school improvement initiatives.
- Engage in extracurricular activities like coaching, clubs, student government, tutoring, enrichment activities, etc.
Qualifications
- Evidence of successful experience in student relations.
- Good general reading, writing, and math skills as demonstrated by meeting No Child Left Behind requirements for Paraprofessionals (typically requiring an associate’s degree, 60 college credits, or passing scores on an equivalent state-approved assessment).
- Proficiency in an instructional support capacity, acquired through experience in tutoring, teaching, or similar education-related roles.
- IVP Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions.
- Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
