About the Role

Assists teachers with instructional and non-instructional classroom and other student-related functions, following all laws, Board Policies, regulations, rules, and procedures. Works under the direction of teachers and other professional staff to support student learning and school operations.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes effective working rapport with staff and maintains positive relationships with internal and external publics.
  • Assists in implementing instructional and non-instructional programs, working with students individually or in small groups.
  • Collaborates with general education, special education teachers, and other professional staff.
  • Plans and prepares the learning environment, sets up equipment, and prepares materials and supplies.
  • Administers instruction and/or assessments to individuals or small groups as directed.
  • Attends required meetings and staff development programs.
  • Supervises instructional and non-instructional activities and areas.
  • Performs clerical and other assigned tasks.
  • Monitors and addresses student behavior, reporting performance and progress to teachers.
  • Operates instructional or non-instructional equipment as applicable.
  • Creates individualized learning materials under supervision.
  • Provides academic and non-academic instruction, remediation, and reinforcement to students.
  • Delivers technology-assisted instruction for remediation and reinforcement.
  • Supports students with instructional needs, monitors progress, and assists inside or outside the classroom.
  • Provides documentation, record-keeping, or maintains logs/journals as appropriate.
  • Assists students with motor or mobility limitations, including rotating, stretching, or lifting.
  • Provides assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL), such as toileting, diapering, hygiene, organizing materials, and dressing.
  • Assists teachers in communicating and collaborating with parents/guardians.
  • Completes School Based Access Program (MA) service logs daily and submits them weekly.
  • Maintains a safe school environment by reporting dangerous situations, accidents, or injuries.
  • Advocates for students by reporting suspected cases of abuse, neglect, health issues, or learning deficiencies.
  • Maintains highly qualified status and participates in professional development activities.
  • Works additional hours as necessary to complete assigned tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

Qualifications

  • Two years of postsecondary general education or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain highly qualified status.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Effective communication, judgment, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow directives and adhere to the established chain of command.
  • Dependable, punctual, flexible, and professionally attired.
  • Courteous to students, staff, and the public.
  • Adequate interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently or on a team.
  • Necessary technology-related knowledge and computer skills.
  • Evidence of professional growth and development by staying current in the field.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain standing or in a stationary position for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to move about the work area to access materials, file cabinets, and machinery.
  • Ability to operate position-related equipment.
  • Ability to travel between school district buildings and other job-related locations.
  • Ability to withstand changes in environmental conditions inside and outside the work facility.
  • Ability to access all work areas and locations.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, or reach above shoulder level to store and retrieve materials.
  • Ability to lift as required.
  • Must perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
