Paraprofessional, Academic Success - Sciences

Responsibilities

The part-time Paraprofessional – Academic Success performs a variety of specialized duties in specific disciplines. Provides individual and small group tutoring for students, mentors new tutors, assists with development and delivery of workshops and training, and conducts outreach. This position provides tutoring for biology and/or chemistry courses, and other science courses on the Sanford/Lake Mary campus.

Essential Functions:

• Provides individual and small group tutoring for students.
• Mentors new tutors.
• Affords assistance with development and delivery of workshops and training.
• Conducts information sessions to promote the services of the Academic Success/STAR Center.
• Maintains the professional operations of the Academic Success/STAR Center.
• Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
• Associate of Arts degree from an accredited institution (desired).
• Experience tutoring or teaching (desired).
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
• Demonstrates a professional, courteous demeanor.
• Ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Committed to working in a multi-cultural environment.

Work Environment and Special Considerations

• Works inside in an office or laboratory.
• Hours will vary (days, evenings, and weekends), up to twenty-six hours per week during fall and spring semesters.
• Campus locations vary based on need.

Pay, Benefits, and Work Schedule

• $15.58 hourly up to 26 hours per week.
• This is a temporary part-time pool position. While a posting may exist on our website, there may or may not be a need at this time; however, submitted applications remain active for one academic year and are available for the Department to review as openings become available.
