About the role

The Urgent Care Tech role supports the safe care and treatment of patients in the urgent care environment, placing IV's for contrast studies and providing emergency response when needed. As the largest healthcare employer on the South Shore, part-time hours can be combined with other available department needs to create a full-time, benefitted role.

The Urgent Care Tech is responsible for responding to requests for ALS intervention and providing emergency medical care in the pre-hospital environment according to Paramedic Protocols and Policies approved by SSHS and the ALS system Medical Director. Performs other duties related to the provision of care and development of the community EMS system. Assists in the Hospital as assigned after appropriate credentialing.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to requests for paramedic services from area departments in a timely and safe manner.
  • Follows Massachusetts laws regarding emergency driving and communicates with dispatchers as required.
  • Completes accurate and legible documentation, including run reports, trip logs, patient charges, and refusal forms.
  • Ensures vehicle and equipment are ready for response at all times, including restocking within 30 minutes following a run.
  • Renders pre-hospital medical care at the paramedic level, performing patient assessments and adhering to treatment protocols.
  • Performs assigned duties in the emergency department, such as 12 Lead EKGs, blood draws, and IV insertions.
  • Acts as a team leader during emergency responses, directing EMTs and other personnel.
  • Maintains vehicle and equipment, preventing loss or damage.
  • Pursues professional growth through certifications, staff meetings, and sharing new information with colleagues.
  • Participates in community activities to improve public understanding of the EMS system.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Prior experience as a provider of pre-hospital care in an emergency setting.
  • Critical Care Experience and ALS Transfers (preferred).
  • Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (verified annually).

Qualifications

  • Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (preferred).
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (preferred).

Pay

Pay Range: $25.25 - $35.36 per hour.

Schedule

Part-time, 18 budgeted hours per week. Specific shifts: Mondays and Tuesdays 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Saturdays 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM.
