Located in Nashville, Tennessee, Vanderbilt University Medical Center operates at a global crossroads of teaching, discovery, and patient care. LifeFlight Event Medicine (LFEM) provides high-level clinical care at events throughout Tennessee, offering both onsite medical support and transport services.

About the role

Join a dynamic team of AEMTs, Paramedics, CCPs, RNs, NPs, and MDs committed to growing their skills and delivering exceptional care in varied environments—from structured settings to fast-paced events. LFEM values flexibility, allowing you to work independently or collaboratively.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate with the healthcare team to provide direct patient care.
  • Transport patients via various modes while providing quality ALS and Critical Care management to all ages.
  • Respond to emergency requests within Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt-sponsored, or other contracted events.
  • Utilize problem-solving models to independently resolve patient issues and implement solutions.
  • Communicate effective patient handover to the healthcare team.

Schedule

  • Self-scheduling: Maximum flexibility with a PRN commitment of a minimum of 4 events per month, plus 3 weekend events per quarter.
  • Shift lengths: Most shifts average 6–8 hours, but may range from 3 to 16 hours depending on event needs.
  • Timing: Events occur daily, with the highest demand on nights and weekends.

Event structure: Events range from indoor/outdoor sporting events to emergency response on clinic and hospital campuses. You may operate independently, work in small teams, or collaborate within large, integrated teams alongside advanced providers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required).
  • Tennessee Driver’s License.
  • Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic Licensure.
  • Less than 1 year of relevant work experience.

  • Assessing, Intervening & Stabilizing Patients: Fundamental proficiency to demonstrate skills in practical applications of moderate difficulty, generally under direction.
  • Medication Management: Conduct comprehensive assessments of medication compliance, review histories, and recognize issues requiring provider contact.
  • Critical Thinking: Display clarity, accuracy, precision, and sound evidence in task completion.
  • Airway Establishing & Ventilator Management: Fundamental proficiency in practical applications, generally under direction.
  • Supporting Colleagues: Develop skills, build relationships, and communicate effectively.
  • Delivering Excellent Services: Serve others with compassion, solve routine problems, and provide accurate support.
  • Ensuring High Quality: Check work quality, meet standards, and fulfill safety/regulatory requirements.
