Paramedic (Per Diem)

Weeks Medical Center (WMC) is seeking an Emergency Department (ED) Paramedic to join our clinical team, providing quality care to patients in the Emergency Department. This role may also involve accompanying EMS services on patient transfers to other facilities based on acuity. The Paramedic will follow protocols set by the state of New Hampshire and WMC standards of care, reporting to the Emergency Department Manager and Director.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate current clinical competence and excellence in practice as outlined in the skills competency tool.
• Accept responsibility and accountability for clinical practice while functioning as a Paramedic in the ED.
• Adhere to Standards of Practice in the ED based on physician orders and NH EMS Protocols during transports.
• Identify and report Risk Management situations, completing Occurrence Reports with full documentation.
• Assess EMS and ED patients immediately upon arrival, including triage and interpretation of rhythm strips.
• Review test results (e.g., EKGs, Lab, X-ray) and report findings to the ED physician.
• Coordinate the in-hospital interdisciplinary plan of care with the ED physician and RN.
• Administer medications according to state and hospital formulary/policy, monitoring for effects and documenting findings.
• Assist physicians and providers in treatments and procedures (e.g., suturing, splinting).
• Update treatment plans in collaboration with the ED team, patient, and family.
• Triage patients using the ESI model and notify the ED RN and physician of critical findings.
• Initiate orders per protocol and policy, input physician orders into the Order Management system, and carry out waive testing.
• Document all pertinent information accurately on pre-hospital PCRs or patient medical records.
• Transport patients between departments, ensuring continuity of essential services (e.g., oxygen, IV therapy).
• Provide compassionate care, addressing patients' physical and emotional concerns.
• Accompany patients on paramedic-level transfers to other facilities, completing NH Transfer forms and obtaining physician orders.
• Follow infection control practices and precautions as outlined in hospital policies.
• Support patient care initiatives by responding to Code Blue and Rapid Response Team calls and performing IV starts as requested.
• Adhere to Medication Safety policies, including bar-coding medications and patient ID bands, with minimal barcode overrides.
• Perform additional duties as assigned and adhere to facility values and standards.

Requirements

• Graduate of a Paramedic Program.
• NRP Certification (must be obtained within one year of employment).
• MOAB certification required within one year of employment.
• Current licensure as a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic.
• Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Care Provider in New Hampshire.
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS certifications (required prior to employment).
• Critical care course completion within two years of employment.
• Two years of experience as a Paramedic.
• Hospital experience preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, conflict management, and time management skills.
• Basic computer systems knowledge.

Orientation

All new hires are required to attend a mandatory three-day orientation at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster, NH. This orientation covers essential training, compliance information, and an introduction to our organizational culture. Attendance on all three days is required for onboarding completion. If Weeks Medical Center is not your designated home base, you will be eligible for travel reimbursement in accordance with our standard travel policy.
