About the role

Responds to EMS calls and performs a variety of functions related to the care and treatment of patients suffering from urgent and emergent disease and/or injury states in accordance with appropriate rules, regulations, and protocols, according to the PA DOH EMS Act and scope of practice.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to EMS calls, observes safety policies, and operates an emergency vehicle with due regard for others.
  • Prepares, hangs, monitors, and administers I.V. fluids.
  • Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members.
  • Prepares patients for scheduled procedures and assists in patient assessment.
  • Responds to emergency calls as a single Advanced Life Support Provider.
  • Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population.
  • Assesses and interprets patient age‑specific data and provides appropriate, age‑specific treatment.
  • Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor, and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and “error proof” systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participates in educational programs and in‑service meetings.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Required Work Experience: 1 year in a busy 911 system.
  • Required Licenses (Upon Hire):
    • Certified Paramedic or Certified Pre‑Hospital Registered Nurse
    • Basic Life Support
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • Driver’s License: Must possess a valid driver’s license in the current state of residence; driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.
  • Required Courses and Training (Upon Hire):
    • Medical Command Authorization
    • Emergency Vehicle Operator’s Course (EVOC)
    • National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700, 800 – Hazardous Materials Awareness
    • Emergency Medical Services Vehicle Operator (EMSVO)

Schedule
