About the role
The Paramedic performs care appropriate to the patient population served and meets routine and life-threatening patient care needs under the direction of the Operational Medical Director.
The Paramedic may respond under routine or emergency conditions; assess the scene for hazards; triage multiple patients, especially in mass casualty situations; provide assessment, stabilization, and treatment of life-threatening conditions within the Paramedic scope of practice and established protocols.
The role also includes providing routine, non-emergent care and transportation to patients as needed by ambulance.
Responsibilities
- Assesses nature and extent of illness/injury to establish and prioritize medical care.
- Provides appropriate patient care interventions, including but not limited to basic life support, IV insertion, fluid and medication administration, advanced airway techniques, cardiac rhythm interpretation and monitoring, pacing, and defibrillation.
- Provides emergent care, routine and non-emergent care, and transportation to patients as needed by ambulance.
- Gathers and submits appropriate patient data necessary for continued treatment.
- Demonstrates ability to prioritize multiple tasks to accomplish work assignments in a timely manner.
- Completes documentation and submits it in a timely manner.
- Interacts and communicates information and ideas to all levels of personnel within the organization.
- Recognizes conflicts with personnel, patients, and other customers and appropriately intervenes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Virginia Paramedic or EMT-Intermediate certification required.
- American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or recognized equivalent required for hire; AHA ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
- American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or recognized equivalent required for hire; AHA PALS required within 6 months of hire.
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR or recognized equivalent required for hire; AHA BLS required within 6 months of hire.
- VAVRS or VDFP EVOC required.
- Hazardous Materials Awareness required within the first year of employment.
- FEMA IS 100, 200, and 700.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in healthcare or related field.
- Previous pre-hospital EMS or transport experience.
- National registry paramedic.
Travel
Travel is expected to be between 10% and 25% of the time.
Pay
$25.85 - $37.49/hour.
