About the Role
Under the supervision of licensed registered nurses, a Paramedic or Intermediate performs various duties to assist in the care of patients in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Performs ambulance maintenance, equipment maintenance, and ensures radio equipment is operational.
- Responds to calls within time guidelines and delivers care appropriate to the needs of the patient within basic and advanced life support guidelines.
- Maintains competency in the delivery of emergency medical care, including the use of suction, immobilization equipment, intravenous infusions, medications, cardiac monitors/defibrillator/pacer, and performance of other skills within scope of practice.
- Participates in continuous education programs to improve competence in ambulance service and operations.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of city/county geography and ability to safely drive an ambulance under emergency conditions.
- Completes patient care reports at the time of care delivery and accurately documents care.
- Adheres to facility guidelines along with state/federal laws, regulations, and guidelines for emergency medical services.
- Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with local pre-hospital providers, hospitals, and the community served.
- Able to lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care.
- Communicates with receiving facility to receive medical direction and provide critical information.
- Communicates with call coordinators and/or dispatch to receive call data.
- Performs basic patient care with minimal supervision and within established policies for all age groups within the Emergency Department, such as vital signs and venipuncture within hospital guidelines.
- Obtains EKGs, assists with ambulation, measures vital signs and blood glucose, and transports patients.
Requirements
- Paramedic or Intermediate license through appropriate state and national registries.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing with the state.
Qualifications
- Paramedic License in the state of Alabama required.
- Maintain current BLS certification.
- No previous experience required.
