Responsibilities
- Affords assessment of patient and family needs, offering appropriate medical care.
- Reports observations and medical care of the patient accurately through verbal and written means.
- Accurately documents all medical treatments provided.
- Might be assigned various administrative and/or hospital duties such as inventory and ordering supplies, squad readiness checks/testing’s and inventories, verifying ambulance and its contents are in proper working condition, maintaining familiarity with specialized equipment, etc.
- Participates in Quality Assurance/Quality Initiative processes by reviewing patient care reports as per department standards.
- Assists in providing assistance in the hospital emergency department.
- Operates at the level of certification as per protocol with medical director approval (EMT/Paramedic).
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Successful completion of EMS training from an approved training course.
- Previous EMS experience.
- Current certification at EMT-PM level is required.
- Valid Iowa driver’s license for at least three years with an acceptable or clear rating according to the Motor Vehicle Record chart.
- Two years driving experience with no record of DUI, DWI, or similar alcohol or drug related offenses over the past five years.
- No record of reckless driving, careless driving, speeding over 15 miles above the speed limit, fleeing or eluding a police officer, chemical test refusal, leaving the scene of an accident, driving after revocation or suspension, or passing a stopped school bus in the last five years.
- Current certification in PHTLS, PEARS.
- Current NREMT certification.
- Critical Care Paramedic Endorsement.
