About the role

At Holy Name, the Paramedic represents the hospital and the Holy Name ER Physicians in the community by delivering state-of-the-art pre-hospital care under the Mobile Intensive Care Program and in accordance with New Jersey State Department of Health statutes and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes charge responsibilities in the field, including organization of patient care and scene control
  • Serves as a patient advocate
  • Assesses scene safety before entry, identifies hazards, and uses protective clothing and equipment as needed
  • Obtains patient data from patients, families, bystanders, and identification found on scene
  • Observes, records, and reports patient symptoms, activity, reactions, and changes using specific assessment techniques
  • Supervises Basic Life Support providers in delivery of care to patients requiring Advanced Life Support
  • Performs critical care and Advanced Life Support treatments and special procedures as ordered by the Base Physician or per standing orders during radio failure per NJ Department of Health standards and Holy Name Hospital policies
  • Appropriately uses standing orders in patient care per NJ 8:41-10.1 thru 10.13
  • Treats patients during periods of radio failure per 8:41-3.8
  • Performs duties within scope of practice as defined in 8:41-4.17
  • Performs approved skills and procedures per 8:31-7-2
  • Assesses equipment effectiveness and recommends changes; maintains equipment in clean, safe, and working order
  • Performs equipment, medication, and supplies inventory at the start of each shift and documents issues on vehicle checksheet
  • Properly identifies and disposes of all waste materials
  • Maintains controlled substances count, documents usage, waste, and expirations in the narcotic log
  • Operates MICU vehicles safely and responsibly, including appropriate use of emergency lights and sirens per 8:41-3.9
  • Shares responsibility for orienting new employees with the Coordinator and/or Clinical Supervisor
  • Provides in-service education to BLS providers, police, fire, rescue, nursing, and others as required
  • Performs approved MICU procedures within the ER in emergencies under physician direction when necessary
  • Represents Holy Name Hospital by participating in public relations programs as requested
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Coordinator
  • Demonstrates ability to properly carry patients and equipment
  • Accurately documents patient assessment, treatment, and response; provides oral and written reports to Medical Control and the receiving hospital
  • Keeps accurate records of all dispatched calls on daily log and obtains dispositions on all patients seen by MICU
  • Orders, stocks, and maintains records of supplies received through Pharmacy and Storeroom
  • Keeps an up-to-date log of skills and CEUs as required by OEMS and submits data to the Clinical Supervisor for timely recertification
  • Maintains a positive, professional image and participates effectively in evaluation procedures
  • Participates in formal self-evaluation by identifying strengths and limitations and seeks supervision where appropriate
  • Plans and participates in education programs and workshops to increase professional competency and meet goals
  • Understands legal consequences associated with Emergency Medical Services and identifies unsafe patient care practices
  • Actively participates on committees as requested and functions as a positive role model
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Job performance requires extensive standing, walking, bending, and lifting
  • Displays and maintains a positive business demeanor and carries out responsibilities in patient and non-patient care areas

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience

Experience Qualifications

  • Prior experience in patient evaluation and care is required
  • Experience with equipment maintenance procedures is required
  • Prior hospital EMS experience is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Effective and proper documentation experience

Licenses and Certifications

  • Current NJ MICP/MICN Certification upon hire
  • BCLS – Basic Life Support (AHA) upon hire
  • ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA) upon hire
  • Valid in-state Driver’s License required and must be maintained upon hire
  • Must maintain current MICP/MICN certifications upon hire
  • Professional Rescuer AHA CPR upon hire
  • AHA-ACLS skill review bi-annually upon hire
  • AHA ALS CEU 48 hours bi-annually upon hire

$33.00/hour – $40.50/hour
