Paramedic Full Time Days

About the role

Paramedics assist nursing and physician staff in providing patient care in the emergency room and med/surg unit and serve as active members of the rapid response team. Duties are performed in accordance with the organization’s mission, CARES values, and standards, and within the scope of care defined by the Oklahoma State Department of Health “Standard of Care” 310:641-5-30. While working, the Paramedic practices under the license of the Emergency Services Medical Director and the direction of the Facility CNO.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate in timely, consistent, and systematic patient and situation assessments.
• Assist RNs in collecting admission data for ED patients and initiating appropriate procedures.
• Gather and record patient data as frequently as necessary before discharge or release.
• Notify ED providers and/or assigned nurses of any changes in patient status.
• Obtain and interpret information in ways understandable to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Implement the plan of care under the direction of the RN to achieve identified patient outcomes per policy and procedure.
• Provide patient care under the direction of the RN according to the prescribed plan of care.
• Perform procedures at the paramedic level of licensure in accordance with guidelines and delegated tasks.
• Delegate approved tasks to unlicensed healthcare providers.
• Recognize dysrhythmias and notify the assigned nurse and/or physician promptly when warranted.
• Monitor patients requiring constant cardiac monitoring during transport to other departments.
• Demonstrate effective and accurate verbal and written communication.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patients, employees, and hospital business.
• Ensure a clean, safe, and stocked workspace; conduct daily walk-throughs and restock rooms at shift start.
• Maintain equipment, instruments, and trays in good working order; report and label faulty equipment and obtain replacements.
• Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate lead placement for routine cardiac monitoring and 12-lead ECG.
• Perform 12-lead ECGs according to facility policy and procedure.
• Perform clerical duties efficiently when assigned to desk duty, including answering phones with professional etiquette and using the paging system appropriately.

Supervises: Patient Care Tech

Licensures & Experience

• Current Licensed Paramedic with the State of Oklahoma required.
• Computer and office equipment skills.
• BLS healthcare provider required within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS and PALS required within 90 days of hire.
