About the Role

You will join a team of detail-oriented, knowledgeable professionals who are passionate about their work and support one another. In this role, you will perform critical patient care tasks and assist emergency department physicians with examinations and treatments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain clear communication with the attending physician and licensed nurse about all patient care issues
  • Assist with patient examinations or treatments and observe and report patients’ signs or symptoms
  • Take vital signs and measure and record patient input and output
  • Attach oxygen and cardiac monitors
  • Monitor patient cardiac rhythm, perform 12-lead EKG, document EKG strips, suction patient airways as directed, and report findings to the care team
  • Receive patients from EMS personnel and prepare patients for the physician’s care
  • Collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by the physician and perform basic laboratory procedures
  • Assist emergency department physicians with procedures including:
    • Central line insertions
    • Lumbar punctures
    • Defibrillation and cardioversion
    • Chest tube insertion and thoracentesis
    • Arterial lines
    • Suturing
    • Needle chest decompressions
    • Endotracheal and nasotracheal intubation
    • Insertion of intraosseous lines
    • Endotracheal suctioning
    • Inserting Foley catheters
    • Securing airways through insertion of oral/nasal airway devices
  • Perform CPR, defibrillation, cardioversion, and transcutaneous pacing during emergencies

Requirements

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (must be obtained within 7 days of employment start date)
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date)
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date)
  • Paramedic certification
