Job Summary

Responsible for dispatch operations, utilizing communications equipment to coordinate timely responses to medical emergencies and perform emergency medical call taking.

Essential Functions

  • Answers 911 and other emergency telephone lines from callers requesting medical assistance (20%)
  • Maintains and distributes updates of hospital divert status changes (10%)
  • Monitors and controls the movement of ambulances (20%)
  • Initiates Emergency Medical Dispatch procedures (20%)
  • Gathers and prioritizes data received from emergency telephone contacts (10%)
  • Receives reports and complaints and records pertinent information (10%)
  • Affords assistance with orientation of new employees (10%)

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One year as an emergency 911 operator, or public safety or emergency medical dispatching experience required, -OR- Two years of experience in emergency or non-emergency telephone public contact work required.
  • One year of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) on an ambulance preferred.

Certifications

  • CPR, EMD, CJIS certifications must be obtained within one (1) month of hire.
  • ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams – internal and external to Denver Health.
  • Knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software.
  • Experience with mass notification systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of Emergency Medical Dispatch processes.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, and resolve problems.
  • Strong listening and recall skills, as well as the ability to multi-task.

Pay and Benefits

Dispatcher 1: $32.18/hr
Sr. Dispatcher: $40.23/hr.
Positions are located at Denver 911 Communications Center, 12025 45th St., Denver, CO 80239
