About the role

The Trusts & Estates team at Harris Beach Murtha is seeking a Paralegal to support attorneys with a wide range of estate planning and administration matters. The ideal candidate will have 1+ years of experience as a trusts and estates paralegal, with 3+ years preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file court filings, estate and fiduciary accountings, and tax returns (including Forms 1041, 706, and related Connecticut forms)
  • Assist with estate administration, including asset inventory, valuation, distribution, and probate documentation
  • Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Communicate with clients to gather information, provide updates, and respond to inquiries
  • Organize and maintain physical and electronic files to ensure accessibility and accuracy
  • Support attorneys with case management and day-to-day administrative needs
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Experience preparing court filings, estate and fiduciary accountings, and tax returns (including Forms 1041, 706, and related Connecticut forms)
  • Experience with Connecticut Probate Court filings (New York experience a plus)
  • The ability to assist with estate administration, including asset tracking, funding, and beneficiary communications
  • The ability to conduct legal research related to trusts, estates, tax regulations, and case law
  • The ability to communicate with clients to gather information, provide updates, and respond to inquiries
  • The ability to organize and maintain physical and electronic files to ensure accessibility and accuracy
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues
  • The ability to perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and proofreading skills to ensure accuracy of legal documents
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with a client-focused approach
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with fiduciary income tax preparation and fiduciary accounting software a plus

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Pay

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The role is hybrid, with the option to work from home 1-2 days per week.
