About the role
DecisionHR is hiring a Paralegal II for our in-house Legal Department. This is a hands-on role with real ownership, direct access to legal leadership, and no two days alike.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, you'll provide substantive legal, insurance, and compliance support across a variety of matters.
- EPLI & insurance: administering Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) claims — reporting to carriers, coordinating with adjusters and defense counsel, and maintaining claim files, deadlines, and certificates of insurance.
- Service of process & intake: managing service of process, subpoenas, demand letters, garnishments, and records requests, and keeping legal intake routed and tracked.
- Multi-state compliance: maintaining multi-state trackers (minimum wage, salary thresholds, workplace notices, new-hire packets) and helping prepare quarterly HR compliance updates.
- Legal operations: supporting day-to-day legal operations, legal calendars and deadlines, contract routing, corporate records, and coordination with outside counsel.
- Regulatory support: assisting with regulatory requests, government audits, and public records requests.
Requirements
- Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved or accredited program (a bachelor's degree may substitute where appropriate).
- 3–5 years of paralegal experience in corporate, employment, insurance, commercial, litigation, or regulatory matters.
- Strong writing, research, and organizational skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, practical summaries.
- Sharp attention to detail, sound judgment, and discretion with confidential information.
- Comfort managing multiple deadlines independently and knowing when to escalate.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn legal, CRM, claims, and document-management systems.
- A plus: in-house legal experience; EPLI, insurance claims, workers' compensation, PEO/HR outsourcing, or employee benefits background; multi-state compliance; subpoena/service-of-process handling; or a Notary Public commission (or willingness to obtain one).
Qualifications
- Full-time, hourly (non-exempt), approximately 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Hybrid: in office Tuesday–Thursday, remote Monday and Friday (subject to business needs).
- No business travel required.
- Competitive hourly pay based on experience, plus a full benefits package.
Benefits
- Equal opportunity employer.
- E-Verify employer.
