Paralegal I
About the role
This is the first level of Paralegal work, with a focus on protecting the State's interests in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy proceedings. The Paralegal establishes and maintains case files, manages correspondence, prepares and files bankruptcy claims, motions and objections, as well as tracks filing deadlines and answers taxpayer phone calls. The Paralegal should be able to identify issues with case files and documentation and be prepared to reach out to auditors and other Revenue staff to gather additional information as needed.
Responsibilities
- Establishes and maintains case files.
- Reviews legal/court documents for completeness and accuracy.
- Compiles and evaluates facts to complete program, legal, and/or court documents.
- Provides administrative reports and recommendations for new/revised operating policies/procedures.
- Reviews state and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance of legal actions/processes.
Requirements
- Six months experience in preparing and maintaining legal documents and case files.
- Six months experience in data collection which includes collecting, compiling and maintaining data from multiple sources such as files, records, databases, customers, staff or others.
- Six months experience in analyzing and evaluating data.
- Knowledge of legal terminology.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. A satisfactory criminal background check, reference checks, and confirmation of compliance with federal and state tax laws are required. All new hires must attend the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment.
