Paralegal
About the role
Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete, LLP is seeking a dynamic, experienced Paralegal to join its San Francisco office. This non-exempt, hourly position reports to the Office Managing Partner and works closely with attorneys to deliver high-quality legal services.
Responsibilities
- Operate standard office equipment, including computers, copiers, and scanners.
- Draft and prepare error-free correspondence, memoranda, and legal documents from written or oral drafts.
- Prepare litigation-related documents and other attorney-requested items, including attaching appropriate enclosures.
- Review documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting accuracy.
- Maintain client SharePoint sites and ensure compliance with client procedures.
- Foster strong professional relationships with clients, attorneys, and staff while maintaining confidentiality.
- Record time and billing entries daily.
- Provide proactive support that allows attorneys to focus on client matters and business development.
- Document Management
- Organize, code, redact, index, and produce documents.
- Maintain files chronologically, numerically, or by subject matter.
- Collaborate with Litigation Support on electronic productions.
- Prepare fact chronologies and subject-matter categorizations under attorney guidance.
- Conduct document searches and factual research using internal and external databases.
- Maintain case databases and gather information from legal and industry resources.

- Case Preparation
- Schedule and coordinate witness interviews.
- Organize interview memos, digests, and supporting materials.
- Draft deposition notices, prepare exhibits, and summarize deposition transcripts.
- Discovery & Pleadings
- Draft discovery documents, including Initial Disclosures, Interrogatories, Requests for Production, Requests for Admission, and responses.
- Aid in drafting pleadings, motions, and court filings.
- Prepare exhibits and supporting documents, ensure compliance with filing requirements, and maintain litigation files.
- Litigation Support
- Act as liaison among attorneys, clients, and outside agencies.
- Coordinate document flow, order transcripts, and handle external requests.
- Manage litigation dockets, ensuring deadlines and filings are met and accurately calendared.
- Prepare subpoenas, authorizations, and requests to agencies such as the EEOC, DFEH, and others.
- Trial Support
- Organize exhibits, coordinate logistics, and assist attorneys in the courtroom.
- Take notes, manage exhibits, and support witness preparation.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of federal and state court rules, discovery procedures, and litigation processes.
- Proficient in electronic research, litigation databases, and document management tools.
- Highest level of detail-oriented with consistent delivery of error-free work.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a civil litigation paralegal in a mid-size or large law firm.
- ABA-accredited Paralegal Certification required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities; self-starter mentality.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, iManage (or equivalent DMS), Relativity, Westlaw, and LexMachina.
- Customer service mindset with the ability to anticipate attorney needs.
- Availability to work overtime as needed.
Benefits
The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $140,000 per year. This position is not open for submissions by external recruiters at this time.
