Possession of a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent and one of the following:

  • Completion of at least two years of study (minimum 48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education;
  • Possession of an associate’s (or higher) degree; or
  • Passing a rigorous assessment that demonstrates the knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics at a level meeting State and Federal requirements.

Applicants may be exempt from taking the multiple-choice examination if they provide college transcripts verifying 48 units or more in core subject areas of English and Math courses with a grade of "C" or better. Transcripts must be submitted with the application. If an applicant does not possess enough units to be exempt, they must attach to their application a letter requesting an examination date.

Requirements

  • Subscribe to an Oath of Allegiance.
  • Submit to a general tuberculosis examination.
  • Be fingerprinted.
  • Complete a pre-placement physical examination.
  • Show proof of identity and right to work in the United States.
  • Pass a drug test (District has a drug-free workplace policy).
  • Successfully pass all examination parts to attain placement on the eligibility list.

    • Associate’s Degree: $500/year (prorated by FTE).

  • Longevity Pay: Increments added to base pay after completing:
    • 9 years: 3.5%
    • 14 years: 7.123%

    • 44 years: 36.457%

  • Sick Leave: 12 days/year for full-time twelve-month employees (prorated for others; unlimited accumulation).
  • Vacation: 12 days/year for full-time twelve-month employees (increases after 5 years; prorated for others).
  • Shift Differential: 3.75% above day rate for shifts with >4 hours between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m.
  • Retirement: Membership in California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) and Social Security (contributions shared by District and employee).
  • Professional Growth: Additional salary increments for continuing education after one year of service.
  • Veterans Preference: Preference points added to passing examination scores for veterans and disabled veterans.

Schedule

  • Probationary Period: Up to six months or 130 days of paid service (whichever is longer).
  • Eligibility List: Valid for six months after successful examination completion.
