Assist in small group and individual pupil instruction under the direction of a special education teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher
  • Assist teacher in maintaining discipline and with instructional activities
  • Escort students from room to room
  • Assist with toileting of students when required
  • Work with both special education and regular students
  • Assist teaching staff in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEP)
  • Supervise students during recess and lunch
  • Assist students with classroom assignments
  • Copy materials for instructional purposes
  • Assist teacher in filing material and preparing necessary paperwork
  • Alert teachers to observed problems
  • Complete PMT (Positive Management Training) as required

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree
  • Two years of college credit OR hold an associate's (or higher) degree OR successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment (e.g., Parapro Assessment) assessing content knowledge in mathematics, reading, writing, and instructional assistance
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions and correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance
  • Basic knowledge and experience with job-related computer hardware and software applications
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community
  • Awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear
  • Regularly required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must be able to push items up to 50 pounds (e.g., children on bikes or wheelchairs, moving furniture)
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (heavier lifting should be done with assistance)
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision

Work Environment

  • Works in a typical classroom environment with standard noise levels
  • Works throughout the school building, on school grounds, and occasionally off campus
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of students in their charge

Pay

$22.12 - $25.18 per hour (per contractual agreement)

Schedule

6.5 hours per day, 8:50 AM to 3:50 PM
