183-day working calendar for Instructional Assistant; 180-day working calendar for Paraeducator. 6.25 total hours per day (6.0 as Paraeducator, 0.25 as Instructional Assistant). Shift: 8:25 AM–3:10 PM (subject to change). Location: Sandburg Elementary (Juanita Learning Community).

Pay

  • Instructional Assistant: $27.71/hour, eligible for membership in Service International Employees Union No. 925 (SEIU 925).
  • Paraeducator: $30.79/hour, eligible for membership in Teamsters Local Union No. 763 (Lake Washington School District Trades Bargaining Council No. 763).

About the role

Instructional Assistant: Assists teaching staff by completing instructional tasks and maintaining an orderly classroom to provide a positive learning environment. May be assigned to classroom, lunchroom, library, before- or after-school academic programs, or office. At the elementary level, duties include crossing guard and playground supervision. May work with an individual student or the entire classroom.

Paraeducator: Assists teachers with individualized and small-group instruction for students of all educational levels who have physical or behavioral needs or are medically fragile. Supports students’ special health-care needs and develops daily living and behavioral skills. Assists staff with classroom preparation, equipment, and supply management. May supervise and assist students in library, classrooms, resource rooms, self-contained classrooms, playgrounds, or during bus loading/unloading.

Requirements

  • At least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Meet one of the following:
    • Associate degree (AA) or higher, OR
    • Completed two years of study equivalent to 72 college quarter credit hours, OR
    • Passed the Educational Testing Service ParaPro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher, OR
    • Passed the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment with a score of 220 or higher.
  • Official documentation of qualifications required upon hire.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
