About the role

Assist students by helping individuals or small groups with reading, writing, and basic math skills. Implement instruction, reinforce learning skills, and reinforce school-wide discipline procedures. Assist instructors with preparation of classroom materials, monitoring students, and evaluating and recording student achievement.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with classroom activities and implement teacher's instruction plan.
• Perform tutoring, both individually and with small groups, to ensure mastering of subjects.
• Implement age-appropriate educational activities; provide direction and guidance to students.
• Handle student discipline, ensure student safety and security, and communicate with parents, staff, and teachers.
• Clean classroom areas and record attendance.
• Assist teachers in preparing materials, administering tests, grading, and attendance.
• Assist with paperwork and documentation as needed.
• Monitor students during breaks, recess, timeouts, and on field trips.
• Assist with special projects.
• Administer first aid and/or assist students to clinic or nurse.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including lunchroom/playground duty.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• No experience required; experience in working with school-age children preferred.
• Criminal background check required for hire.
• First Aid certification preferred.
• Must successfully complete the Adams County BOCES Safety Training Class within 30 days of entering position.

Pay

Hourly range: $18.40 - $23.25 (Step 1 - Step 8). Newly hired classified employees start at Step 1 ($18.40/hour). Employees can advance up to Step 8 based on previous experience.

Schedule

27.5 standard hours per week, 0.6875 FTE, 9 months per year.
