About the Role

The Paraeducator III – Special Education (Physical Disabilities) assists (under direct supervision) in the supervision and instruction of special education students, supports teachers with the educational and physical needs of students, and provides specialized health care. This position also supports District extended year school programs.

Incumbents may perform any combination of the essential functions and are distinguished from Paraeducator I and II by assisting students in special programs, including daily physical and behavioral assistance for students with identified disabilities in areas such as:

• Diapering
• Toileting (including wiping, cleaning up of bodily fluids, and female needs assistance)
• G-tube feeding
• Hand feeding
• Suctioning
• Catheterization
• Use of specialized equipment, lifts, transfers, and repositioning
• Emergency medication administration
• Ostomy care
• Tracheotomy suctioning (3 inches)
• Seizure care
• Other procedures necessary to enable a student to attend school as prescribed by a physician
• Implementation of Intensive Behavior Intervention Programs for identified special education students

Responsibilities

• Assist in the supervision and instruction of special education students under direct supervision
• Support teachers with the educational and physical needs of students
• Provide specialized health care needs of students daily
• Perform basic clerical functions and arithmetic calculations
• Operate standard office equipment
• Communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written forms
• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
• Maintain confidentiality of student records
• Meet schedules and deadlines
• Read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and policies
• Utilize a variety of instructional media and office machines

Requirements

• One year of paid or volunteer experience working with children identified with unique needs
• Training and experience in Intensive Behavior Instruction or Discrete Trial training is preferred
• First Aid/CPR certification (required)

Qualifications

• Knowledge of principles of child development and instructional processes
• Understanding of general purposes and goals of public education
• Familiarity with student testing and testing procedures
• Ability to understand and support students with special needs
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records
• Skills in performing basic clerical functions and arithmetic calculations
• Proficiency in operating standard office equipment
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling

Pay

Pay Range: $21.459 - $28.200 per hour. Maximum achieved in 8 annual steps. District prorated benefits package included.

Schedule

• 6.50 hours per day, 205 days per year
• Part-time position
• Shift: 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Additional Information

Offer of employment is conditional pending pre-employment physical, fingerprints, negative drug screen, and TB test.
