Pay

Starting hourly rate: $17.32/hour. New hires receive credit for relevant full-time paid experience in the previous 10 years (1% per year, up to 5%) and for an associate’s degree or higher in a related field (1%, combined cap of 5%). Annual performance pay is available. Maximum hiring range is 5% above the starting rate.

Schedule

9-month, part-time (180-day) or full-time (190-day) calendar.

About the Role

Provide high-quality childcare in a nurturing, safe environment using a developmentally appropriate curriculum to help preschool students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to become lifelong learners and responsible citizens.

Responsibilities

  • Student Support & Supervision
    • Supervise students during all program activities, including play periods, lunch, assemblies, emergency drills, and field trips; ensure their well-being and safety.
  • Instructional Assistance
    • Reinforce skills and material with individual students or small groups under teacher direction.
    • Assist in preparing lessons and delivering an age-appropriate curriculum.
  • Social-Emotional Development
    • Help students build positive behaviors and navigate social situations.
  • Classroom Operations
    • Distribute and collect instructional materials; copy, file, and assist with assessments and grading.
    • Create and maintain bulletin boards and other classroom displays.
  • Communication & Confidentiality
    • Translate for students, parents, and staff as needed.
    • Maintain confidentiality of all protected student and staff information.
  • Safety & Reporting
    • Report potential issues such as substance use, child abuse, or other dangerous situations.
    • Immediately alert the teacher or director to any student problems or special information.
  • General Duties
    • Operate and care for instructional equipment.
    • Adhere to all district policies and safety protocols.
    • Remain flexible and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate’s degree or 60 semester hours from an accredited university, or satisfactory results on an Arizona state-approved competency exam.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including a computer and related software.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check.
  • Adequate vision and hearing to perform job responsibilities safely.

Physical Requirements

  • Mobility & Movement: Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, walk, and sit; requires repetitive finger and manual dexterity.
  • Sensory & Communication: Must be able to speak, hear, and see (with correction) to perform essential job functions.
  • Physical Exertion:
    • Occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 pounds.
    • Frequently lift or move objects up to 20 pounds.
    • Constantly lift or move objects up to 10 pounds.
