Paraeducator/Behavior Support
Position Overview
The Special Education Paraeducator will work collaboratively with certified special education teachers to support the academic, behavioral, and social development of students in grades 6 - 12. The individual may provide support with one-on-one and small group instruction, implement individualized behavior plans, and assist in the supervision and guidance of students throughout the school day.
Major Responsibilities & Requirements
- Aid in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) under the guidance of certified special education teachers and BCBA.
- Support students in developing independent learning skills and self-management strategies.
- Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Monitor student behavior and provide feedback to the teacher regarding student progress and needs.
- Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other school staff to support the overall development and progress of students.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Must have taken and passed the ParaPro test or have 2 years full time post-secondary education (minimum 60 credits) or Associate's Degree or higher.
- Possession of a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification is preferred, but all individuals passionate about working with students with emotional and behavioral challenges are encouraged to apply.
- Previous experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities.
- Ability to withstand the physical demands of frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and emergency physical management as required.
