Position Summary

The Behavior Paraeducator provides targeted support to early childhood students with behavioral and social-emotional needs. This position assists in implementing instructional and behavioral strategies under the supervision of certified staff, helping students develop the skills necessary for success in a school setting.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group behavioral support
  • Aid students in developing self-regulation and coping strategies
  • Reinforce positive behaviors and expectations
  • Support inclusion in classroom and school activities
  • Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and IEP goals
  • Use proactive and responsive behavior strategies
  • Assist in crisis prevention and intervention when necessary
  • Maintain consistency with district behavior protocols
  • Assist teacher with instructional activities and classroom management
  • Adapt materials and activities to meet student needs
  • Support student engagement and participation
  • Data Collection & Documentation
  • Track and document behavioral incidents and progress
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records
  • Communicate observations with supervising staff
  • Personal Care & Safety
  • Assist with toileting, hygiene, feeding, and mobility as needed
  • Ensure student safety at all times
  • Follow all health, safety, and mandated reporting requirements
  • Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, special education staff, therapists, and administration
  • Participate in team meetings as requested
  • Maintain professional communication with staff and families

Qualifications And Education Requirements

  • Successfully pass the Work Keys test (through the Workforce Center) for Reading Information, Mathematics and Business Writing. (unless candidate holds an Associates Degree or higher)
  • Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Experience working with children or youth.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Qualifications Preferred But Not Required

  • Hold an Associate's Degree or higher.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of behavior support strategies.
  • Experience in a school or classroom setting.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

School classroom and resource room environments
Frequent interaction with students, teachers, and staff
Active supervision of students throughout the school day
Ability to move throughout school building and classroom
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
May require assisting students with mobility or other support needs
