About the role
Under the guidance of an Assistive Technology Specialist, supports management and implementation of Assistive Technology tools and best practices to help meet the needs of students and staff.
Responsibilities
- Review and disburse active school support requests as appropriate.
- Maintain technology preparation workflow.
- Provide support to school teams, providers, and parents regarding equipment troubleshooting.
- Assist Assistive Technology staff with maintenance, use, and distribution of equipment and software.
- Support creation of low-tech communication systems for identified students.
- Responsible for inventory control system of assistive technology devices (e.g., digital inventory, labeling equipment, assigning equipment, contacting vendors for maintenance).
- Support development of materials needed to deliver countywide professional development workshops focusing on supporting students with assistive technology needs.
- Assist with planning, preparation, and evaluation of professional learning opportunities offered by the assistive technology office.
- Perform a variety of clerical tasks, including filing, documentation, duplication of handouts for training sessions, and completing forms on the computer.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Attainment of ONE of the following qualifications is required:
- Forty-eight (48) college credits.
- ParaPro Assessment with a passing score of 455 or higher before 9/1/2026 (https://parapro.ets.org/).
- ParaPathways with minimum passing scores: Reading/Writing (322) and Mathematics (334).
- Foundations of Classroom Support with a minimum passing score of 220 (https://www.nestest.com/state/md).
- Possession of a valid class C Maryland driver's license or equivalent.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention certification preferred.
Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with developmental, emotional, learning, and/or physical disabilities is preferred.
- One year’s experience working with students in structured situations is preferred.
- Experience working with students needing assistive technology support preferred.
Skills
- Knowledge of working with individuals with developmental, emotional, physical, and/or learning disabilities.
- Knowledge of the educational system.
- Knowledge of personal computers and office software packages.
- Skill in communicating effectively.
- Skill in establishing rapport with students, families, employers, and staff.
- Skill in training.
- Ability to provide classroom and instructional support to students with special needs.
- Ability to supervise students and manage behavior.
- Ability to operate a computer and learn software programs.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
- The work of this class entails physical efforts such as lifting heavy objects and frequent bending and climbing.
- Some positions may require assistance with toileting.
- Position requires some travel to BCPS schools and sites.
- Persons appointed to this position must maintain a valid driver's license.
Pay
Grade 31-35 depending on education. $23.05 - $38.04 (Hourly Base Pay Scale for Non-Exempt Paraeducators Represented by ESPBC, Effective July 1, 2026). This position may be eligible for extra duty activity pay, as approved by the Supervisor/Principal.
