Paraprofessional Purpose
Affords assistance and participation in teaching, protecting, and providing care for preschool children; collaborates with the classroom Teacher in implementing age/developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
Qualifications
- Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
- Experience with preschool children, preferably in a classroom/child care setting
- Can supervise visually, with or without corrective lenses, to 40ft.
- Can independently lift up to 10 lbs., if necessary
- Prompt, reliable, dependable, honest, able to accept constructive feedback from supervisors
- Good oral and written communication skills
Responsibilities
- Classroom Assist classroom teacher in implementation of age/developmentally appropriate lesson plans
- Assist classroom teacher In maintaining orderly, clean, welcoming classroom for children and parents
- Present any notes, communication, messages to classroom teacher immediately upon receiving from parent, or other adult
- Interact positively with children at a times
- Maintain visual supervision of children at all times
- Observe individual children daily, maintain up to date information in assigned children portfolio, and provide input to classroom teacher for conferences
- Maintain appropriate documentation for each child, as directed by classroom teacher accident/incident report, sick report, daily notes, etc.
- Aid in keeping community areas of building neat and clean; including playground area, bathrooms, snack area, common area, refrigerator, supply cabinets, etc.
- Aid in keeping the program in compliance with NAEYC and classroom portfolio up to date on a weekly basis
Professional Development / Miscellaneous
- Familiarity with state licensing regulations regarding staff/child ratios, hand washing, communicable disease information, etc.
- Familiarity with NAEYC Quality Program Standards
- Read and become familiar with Little Raiders University faculty and parent handbooks
- Attend required staff meetings, as scheduled
- Participate in and receive certification in: First Aid; Child Abuse; PMT Training
- Participate in extracurricular activities such as parent orientation, evening events, etc.
- Report any unsafe or uncomfortable working conditions to the Program Director immediately
- Sensitivity to individual children and their families regarding; ethnicity, differences in cultures, religious affiliations, family structure, etc.
- Work cooperatively with teacher and prove positive role model for children
Requirements upon Hire
- Provide proof of Physical Examination with statement of good health from Primary Care physician, advanced practice nurse, or physician’s assistant; this may be dated within the last 12 months before hire; and then every two years after
- Provide proof of negative TB test upon hire
- Provide three letters of reference from adults not related to employee
- Complete application for employment
- Sign up on the CT Charts-a-course registry
- Sign statements of understanding faculty and parent handbooks and NAEYC Code of Ethic’s
- Submit resume, if applicable
