About the role
Operational responsibility from the HD’s through Stock Prep, Wet End, Dryer Section, Coater, Winder, Roll Line and Color Plant.
Responsibilities
- Safety
- Report and address all safety concerns during shift safety/production meeting at the start of shift with all operational departments (Paper, Utility, Recovery, Pulp, Shipping, Woodyard, and Test Station).
- Understand and enforce mill safety policies/procedures.
- Ensure all crew members are aware of, and adhere to, safety policies/procedures.
- Initiate accident/incident investigation on all events occurring on shift.
- Coordinate/authorize shutdown, lock-out, confined space, hot work procedures on shift.
- Perform proactive safety activities (Two minute drills, safety contacts, audits, JHA, HR cards, etc).
- Quality
- Understand role with respect to the WestRock Quality policy and apply these principles to resolving daily issues.
- Monitor quality tests throughout the shift and confirm procedures are followed for sheet/roll defect inspections.
- Work with Test Station Crew Leader to address quality issues on the machine.
- Closely monitor crews to ensure they are prepared for grade changes to minimize transition losses and follow written SOPs.
- Production/Mill Reliability
- Use Shift Supervisors meeting at the start of each shift to coordinate stock, steam, and water balance with other Paper Machine, Pulp Mill, Recovery, and Power House to optimize total production with resources and cost.
- Review production results compared to goal frequently over the course of the shift.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts on issues impacting production or quality.
- Log, report all significant rejects, downtime or speed losses and corrective action.
- Confirm crew is aware of all operational liabilities and prepared to execute short down list items.
- Perform routine rounds each shift of specified equipment and processes in the area.
- Lead and direct crews during normal operations, hayouts, and maintenance downtime for clothing changes, cleanup, and system LOTO for operational and maintenance work.
- Cost
- Understand key cost drivers for processes under control.
- Identify and address losses/wastes of fiber, water, steam/condensate, chemicals, etc., or potential for clothing damage.
- Environmental
- Understand the Mahrt Operations Environmental Policy and related responsibilities and procedures.
- Immediately report any environmental excursions to the Powerhouse (HAZMAT Team Lead), Environmental and Paper Machine Superintendent or duty person on call.
- Performance Criteria
- Monitor performance against objectives for the shift and overall machine KPIs in safety, quality, production, cost, environmental, and organizational effectiveness.
- Align individual performance objectives with department KPIs and reflect in IPPE objectives.
- Adhere to SOP responsibilities and coordinate activities for shift crew and with other departments on shift.
Requirements
- More than 10 years of Paper Machine Operational experience or a BS in engineering with previous papermaking experience (preferred).
- Adequate computer skills including email, Pi, Opti-Vision, Kronos, intranet applications, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP stores/WO functions, etc.
