About the role
This position involves operating and maintaining a food pantry, providing crisis assistance with grocery items, and managing volunteer recruitment and training.
Responsibilities
- Prepare food orders for distribution.
- Answer phone regarding food pantry issues.
- Be on hand when food arrives and check all items for usability and stock shelves.
- Carry in food as help is required.
- Keep daily records i.e. volunteer and daily disbursement sheets.
- Pick up food from donors, Food Bank, or stores as required.
- Maintain and order supplies.
- Maintain pantry by utilizing a regular cleaning schedule.
- Take out pantry trash.
- Maintain pantry equipment and alert supervisor for maintenance immediately.
- Actively communicate with the supervisor regarding shortages, special needs, etc.
- Treat clients with respect, dignity, and firmness about the pantry and distribution guidelines and rules.
- Maintain regular communication with regular donors i.e. church secretaries.
- Contact donors as needed to maintain pantry supplies.
- Recruit, and provide training, scheduling, and assistance to volunteers.
- Aid supervisor with media opportunities, speaking engagements, public meeting attendance and networking with various community groups.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school/general education diploma.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs.
- Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 7:00 am – 3:00 pm and Tuesday 7:00 am – 12:00 pm work schedule.
- Accepts instructions and applies them logically and responsibly.
- Shows sensitivity and respect for populations of individuals who may be considered marginalized regarding their socioeconomic, emotional, physical, and spiritual backgrounds.
- Works within a team concept and the philosophy of the Catholic Charities mission.
