About the role

The Principal Process Engineer will provide technical assurance and leadership for the design, start-up, and ongoing support of liquefaction and other renewable projects developed by Sempra Infrastructure. This role involves reviewing EPC Contractor deliverables, ensuring designs are safe, fit-for-purpose, and meet industry codes and project specifications. The position includes developing conceptual studies to enhance reliability, operability, production capacity, and safety. Responsibilities extend to closing and reviewing HAZOP actions and Design Change Notices during design, construction, commissioning, and start-up phases. The role also involves developing Operating Procedures and Protocols for the Port Arthur project and supporting day-to-day operations post-commissioning and start-up. This position will be located in Port Arthur, Texas during commissioning, start-up, and the Operate Phase. Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) are required.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and manages assigned phases of the technical development and implementation of LNG and energy infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinates and reviews process design, including preparation and review of data, process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, heat and material balances (HMB), equipment process data sheets, and commissioning and start-up requirements.
  • Coordinates work activities of sub-groups and other process team members, overseeing accuracy and performance against scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Monitors and provides project status updates to project management and development teams, including conditions impacting project completion or performance.
  • Participates in process safety studies, including HAZID and HAZOP reviews, and leads the implementation of recommended actions.
  • Manages third parties, vendors, consultants, and subcontractors in developing process-related studies, evaluating equipment performance, and reviewing documentation for turnover.
  • Participates in the development of project and operating philosophies, as well as operating procedures.
  • Provides technical expertise to support economic analysis for project development.
  • Supports project management in process-related development activities.
  • Oversees technical evaluations and submittals of discipline-specific project documents.
  • Applies knowledge of safe-work procedures and practices during the Operate Phase.
  • Leads and develops process monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Develops white papers to support Process Engineering decisions.
  • Utilizes and updates documentation in the Engineering Knowledge Bank, including Engineering Philosophies and Standards.
  • Serves as the Company representative during the design phase at Contractor office(s).
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Requirements

  • Typically requires a 4-year degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Typically requires 12 years of related experience.

  • Continuous Improvement: Ongoing effort to improve processes, systems, and practices through regular assessment and incremental changes.
  • Process Safety Management: Proactively manage the safety of processes involving hazardous substances through preventive measures, risk assessments, safety procedures, training, and continuous monitoring.
