PALNG Operations Specialist

About the role

The Lead Operations Specialist reports to the Production Manager and is accountable for supporting programs to advance operations safety, compliance, reliability, efficiency, and profitability in alignment with the safe and effective operation of the Port Arthur LNG Facility. This role works with all facility operations personnel, Supervisors, Managers, and Directors within the Operations & Maintenance departments to operate and optimize the Port Arthur LNG facility.

The Lead Operations Specialist participates in Simultaneous Operations (SIMOP) reviews, task-based risk assessments, and works alongside Permit to Work Coordinators and the Operations group to ensure proper transfer of equipment ownership between Operations and Maintenance. This role also determines and prioritizes maintenance requirements and writes associated work orders, always promoting safety and environmental compliance.

Responsibilities

• Perform field observations, JSA reviews, and toolbox meetings; interface with maintenance as required to participate in permit and scheduling meetings.
• Develop, update, and maintain operating plans, procedures, manuals, and programs in compliance with company Environmental and Safety policies, ensuring regulatory compliance while maintaining maximum reliability and efficiency.
• Report safety and environmental concerns, problems, and incidents to appropriate shift team members.
• Develop, review, revise, train, and manage operating procedures and properly maintain executed operating procedures to ensure compliance.
• Participate in Port Arthur LNG continuous improvement initiatives such as training efforts and standard implementation/review.
• Support the Operations Excellence Management System and Operational Discipline practices.
• Participate in Control of Work or Process Safety Management-related activities such as management of change, process hazard analysis, and compliance audits.
• Support the Operations leadership team by maintaining awareness of day-to-day activities and attending Operations meetings.
• Serve as an operations subject matter expert, maximizing efficiency, providing advanced troubleshooting, participating in job planning, and coordinating process operations with maintenance, project, and shutdown activities.
• Provide input in the pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, and initial operation of the Port Arthur LNG Facility as a vital member of the integrated commissioning/start-up team(s) with the EPC contractor.
• Keep skills and knowledge current and complete required refresher training to maintain and elevate process understanding.
• Report to work during unscheduled time in emergency situations and participate in Emergency Response Actions during an emergency event.
• Work with a culturally diverse group of technical individuals whose skills cover the range required to operate and maintain the Port Arthur Liquefaction facility.
• Perform other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

• 5 years of Petrochemical, Refining, or Oil & Gas / LNG Operations experience.
• 5 years of DCS experience in a position of responsibility and expertise in an operating LNG Liquefaction facility.
• 8 years of related work experience in Petrochemical, Refining, or Oil & Gas / LNG Operations (preferred).

• Strong working knowledge and understanding of how to read and interpret P&IDs (Advanced).

• Understanding of competency development programs and supporting tools and practices (Intermediate).
• Strong working knowledge of permit to work and safe isolation practices.
• Ability to lead and develop people in a way that inspires trust and loyalty.
