Responsibilities
- Ensure the palletizing machine operates continuously and troubleshoot malfunctions or abnormalities in a timely manner to maintain overall line efficiency, including issues with the machine, shuttle cars, wrappers, and photo eyes.
- Inform maintenance of any required repairs on equipment.
- Select appropriate palletizing patterns and verify code dates at each changeover.
- Notify forklift drivers of changeovers and ensure pallets are of acceptable quality.
- Comply with QA standard guidelines and ensure finished pallets meet quality standards.
- Check and verify pallet patterns, bag sizes, and setup for each product.
- Optimize stack patterns to minimize overhang, eliminate product gaps, and present tightly stacked, symmetrical pallets for customer quality.
- Coordinate material handling and maintain open communication with forklift drivers to prevent material shortages.
- Communicate with Parsons/Thiele operators to plan for upcoming changeovers and change materials as needed.
- Ensure correct materials (pallets, slip sheets, film) are used per product.
- Assist the manifestor in the LP process, cover the manifest station during breaks, and verify accuracy of LP’s applied to pallets, including G-Code and quantity.
- Participate in team development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies to ensure BEST practices.
- Attend team meetings and foster cohesiveness on major issues such as direction, annual plans, budgets, and policy changes.
- Identify and address areas lacking cohesiveness, bringing them to the team leader’s attention and working toward resolution.
- Familiarize with Simmons' operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN) and understand the role in supporting these systems.
- Perform additional duties as necessary to support business objectives.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Experience running large machines and fast-paced production (preferred).
- Background in manufacturing with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 55 lbs (15% of the time).
- Ability to work in hot and cold climates.
Skills
