About the role
Produce pallets of product properly stacked, stretch wrapped, and ready to be stored in the warehouse.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the palletizing machine is running at all times.
- Troubleshoot all palletizer machine malfunctions/abnormalities in a timely manner to maintain overall line efficiency, including troubleshooting the machine, shuttle cars, wrappers, and photo eyes.
- Inform maintenance of any repairs needed on any equipment.
- Select appropriate palletizing pattern.
- Verify code date at each changeover.
- Notify forklift driver of changeover.
- Ensure pallets are of acceptable quality and comply with QA standard guidelines.
- Check pallet pattern for each product.
- Verify that palletizer is set up for the correct bag size and pattern.
- Optimize stack patterns to uphold the BEST quality for the customer by minimizing overhang, eliminating product gaps, and presenting a tightly stacked symmetrical pallet.
- Coordinate material handling and keep open communication with forklift driver to ensure lines do not run out of materials.
- Communicate with Parsons/Thiele operators to plan ahead for upcoming changeovers.
- Change materials out as needed when changing products, ensuring correct materials are utilized per product (correct pallets, slip sheets, and film).
- Assist the manifestor in the LP process; cover the manifest station while this employee is on break.
- Verify ACCURACY of LPs applied to pallets and ensure G-Code and quantity are CORRECT.
- Participate as a member of the Team, including ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies; coordinate work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.
- Attend appropriate team meetings and foster strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues (direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.).
- Accept responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bring them to the attention of the team leader, and work with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues.
- Actively look for ways and reinforce actions needed to achieve synergy within the larger organization.
- Be familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN) and understand the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of those systems, including consideration of the impact of individual actions and responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
- Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Qualifications
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Background in manufacturing.
- Experienced within a manufacturing/process environment with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Experience running large machines preferred; fast-paced production experience preferred.
Physical activities
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and lift up to 55 lbs (lifting of up to 55 lbs will likely take place 15% of the time).
- Will be subject to hot and cold climates.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Steel-toed shoes, ear plugs, hair net.
