About the Role

Operate and maintain the palletizing machine to ensure product is properly stacked, stretch-wrapped, and ready for warehouse storage.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the palletizing machine runs continuously and troubleshoot malfunctions or abnormalities in a timely manner, including issues with the machine, shuttle cars, wrappers, and photo eyes.
  • Notify maintenance of any required equipment repairs.
  • Select and optimize palletizing patterns to minimize overhang, eliminate product gaps, and present tightly stacked, symmetrical pallets for quality assurance.
  • Verify code dates during each changeover and notify the forklift driver of changes.
  • Inspect pallets for acceptable quality and compliance with QA standard guidelines.
  • Verify the palletizer is set up for the correct bag size and pattern.
  • Coordinate material handling and maintain open communication with forklift drivers to prevent material shortages.
  • Communicate with Parsons/Thiele operators to plan for upcoming changeovers and change materials as needed.
  • Ensure correct materials (pallets, slip sheets, film) are used per product.
  • Assist the manifestor in the labeling process (LP), verify accuracy of labels applied to pallets, and ensure G-Code and quantity are correct.
  • Participate in team meetings, support team policies, and foster cohesiveness on major issues.
  • Identify and address areas lacking team cohesion, working collaboratively to resolve issues.
  • Adhere to Simmons’ operating systems (e.g., quality, security, LEAN) and communicate concerns or improvement ideas.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Experience running large machines and fast-paced production environments preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Background in manufacturing with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Military experience valued.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and lift up to 55 lbs (approximately 15% of the time).
  • Exposure to hot and cold climates.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required: steel-toed shoes, ear plugs, hair net.
