About the role
Facilities Management at Oklahoma State University-Stillwater is seeking a skilled and experienced painter to join our team. The position involves a variety of tasks related to painting, signage installation, and construction.
Responsibilities
- Apply coating in the required thickness to maintain a consistent run-free finish and gloss.
- Signage installation, both interior and exterior.
- Scissor lift and man lift experience.
- Construct and deconstruct scaffolding.
- Perform minor carpentry work such as installing TV wall mounts, framing modifications, and sheetrock installation.
- Carpet, LVT, and VCT removal/installation, including vinyl base installation.
- Assist with window replacement.
- Perform ceiling grid modifications and ceiling tile replacement.
- Install insulation in walls and above ceilings.
- Assist with all other construction fields.
- Paint interior offices, classrooms, hallways, stairwells, and furnishings.
- Scrape, sand, prep, and clean all areas to be painted.
- Spread drop cloths to protect areas from paint.
- Tape and bed new sheetrock.
- Patch holes with taping mud, plaster, or spackle.
- Apply various types of materials such as alkyds, acrylics, urethane, epoxies, lacquer, and stains with brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to walls, ceilings, floors, window sash, doors, and furnishings.
- Mix paint and match the colors of paint.
- Load and unload equipment.
Requirements
- High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date).
- Painter I: Two years of work experience; preference given to those with experience in the painting trade.
- Painter II: Four years of work experience in the painting trade.
- Painter III: Seven years of work experience in the painting trade.
- Painter IV: Ten years of experience working in the painting trade.
Qualifications
- Have a valid driver’s license before hire and maintain one after hire for the operation of an OSU vehicle.
- Pass a medical exam to ensure physical ability to wear, use, and perform work in respirator equipment.
- Work safely and promote a safe work environment.
- Ability to work with heavy manual labor and lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.
- Proficiency in the use of the “AIM” Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.
Skills, Proficiencies, And/or Knowledge
- Occasional use of respiratory equipment.
