About the Role

A fully competent worker who performs a wide variety of skilled painting work in applying coats of paint or other protective and decorative coatings by brush, roller, spray gun, and other means. Work includes interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, structures, equipment, and furniture. May supervise one or more Painter Helpers or other assistants and performs other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Apply paint and other coatings using brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other tools.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, and priming.
  • Perform freehand lettering and prepare stencils.
  • Work from rigging and scaffolds as needed.
  • Mix and match paints to achieve desired colors and finishes.
  • Identify and mitigate hazards typical of painting work.
  • Estimate time and materials required to complete jobs.
  • Follow oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Perform heavy lifting, moving, and other manual tasks associated with the work.
  • Supervise Painter Helpers or other assistants when required.

Requirements

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States as a citizen, national, permanent resident alien, or other eligible status under federal law.
  • Four (4) years of work experience in preparing surfaces and applying paint or other coatings by brush, roller, spray gun, or other means; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects of various weights, with or without reasonable accommodation (required for the immediate vacancy).

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Practices, methods, and safety procedures in the painting trade.
  • Tools, equipment, materials, and supplies used in painting.

Ability to:

  • Use brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other painting tools effectively.
  • Prepare stencils and perform freehand lettering.
  • Work safely from rigging and scaffolds.
  • Mix and match paints accurately.
  • Recognize and address workplace hazards.
  • Estimate job requirements, including time and materials.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Perform heavy lifting and manual labor.
