Painter / Full-Time, Day Shift
About the role
The incumbent of this position will paint and do related work for the efficient care and upkeep of the Hastings Veterans Home. The Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings is a Domiciliary (DOM) which is an independent living community for Veterans.
Responsibilities
- Paint and do related work for the efficient care and upkeep of the Hastings Veterans Home.
- Prepare and paint a variety of surfaces including interior and exterior surfaces of State buildings, structures, woodwork, and furniture.
- Interpret, modify, and follow painting and decorating projects according to construction plans and painting specifications.
- Estimate labor and material costs for planned projects.
- Use hand tools and power equipment to prepare, cover, and decorate surfaces.
Requirements
- Approved apprenticeship (6000 hours) in painting.
- Three (3) years of experience as a painter, including commercial or residential work preparing and painting a variety of surfaces.
- One (1) school year of a vocational or trade school painting program AND two (2) years of experience as a painter as described above.
Qualifications
- Five (5) years of experience as a painter, including commercial or residential work preparing and painting a variety of surfaces.
- Knowledge of other skilled trades duties such as Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, and HVAC.
Skills
Knowledge of standard painting practices, techniques, materials and tools sufficient to requisition and select supplies and material, and apply them to complete painting and decorating projects.
Knowledge of construction plans and painting specifications sufficient to interpret, modify, and follow them to complete painting and decorating projects.
Knowledge of shop math sufficient to estimate labor and material costs for planned projects.
Skill in using hand tools (e.g. brushes, rollers, scrapers) and power equipment (e.g. spray guns, sanders) sufficient to prepare, cover and decorate interior and exterior surfaces of State buildings, structures, woodwork, and furniture.

Pay
$29.65 - $34.16 / hourly; $61,909 - $71,326 / annually

Day Shift, 7:00am-3:30pm
