La Posada is looking for a painter to join our Remodel and Maintenance team in Green Valley, AZ. We value quality relationships, excellent customer service, and integrity, and are seeking someone motivated to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
About the role
This is a full-time position with a guaranteed 40 hours per week, primarily indoors (80% of jobs). The work schedule is Monday through Friday, offering excellent work/life balance.
Responsibilities
- Apply primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal, for finish coats.
- Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamel, and other finishes to equipment, buildings, bridges, and/or other structures using brushes, spray guns, or rollers.
- Calculate amounts of required materials and estimate costs based on surface measurements and/or work orders.
- Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisors or homeowners to determine work requirements.
- Cover surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.
- Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers using caulking guns or putty knives.
- Erect scaffolding and swing gates, or set up ladders to work above ground level.
- Remove fixtures such as pictures, door knobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting.
- Wash and treat surfaces with oil, turpentine, mildew remover, or other preparations, and sand rough spots to ensure finishes adhere properly.
- Mix and match colors of paint, stain, or varnish with oil and thinning/drying additives to obtain desired colors and consistencies.
- Remove old finishes by stripping, sanding, wire brushing, burning, or using water and/or abrasive blasting.
- Select tools and finishes for surfaces considering durability, ease of handling, methods of application, and customers' wishes.
- Smooth surfaces using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool, and/or sanding machines.
- Polish final coats to specified finishes.
- Waterproof buildings using waterproofers and caulking.
- Cut stencils and brush/spray lettering and decorations on surfaces.
- Spray or brush hot plastics or pitch onto surfaces.
- Apply paints, stains, surface preparatory materials, and undercoating materials according to Material Safety Data Sheets within hazardous materials guidelines.
- Identify, safely handle, and appropriately dispose of paints, stains, preparatory/undercoating materials, and other hazardous materials.
- Participate in additional duties as assigned by the supervisor, aligned with qualifications.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
- 2 years of related experience.
